Fine Jewellery Warranty FAQs
What happens if I have an issue with my jewellery?
As each piece of Ethica Diamond fine jewellery is made-to-order and crafted specifically for you, slight variations are to be expected, and are not viewed as a defect.
However, if you experience damage to your purchase due to manufacturing, we recommend you contact us so we may evaluate your piece.
Please note that repair or service performed by a jeweller other than Ethica Diamonds will void the warranty.
What's covered under warranty?
Precious Metal
Manufacturing faults include breakdown of the metal which is seen as fracturing from porosity or inconsistency in colour or texture, chain detachment from a jump ring etc.
Loose Stones
Loose gemstones or diamonds, and/or loose claws on new or resized jewellery (carried out by us) is guaranteed for the first 30 days, provided there are no signs of accidental damage/(knock, blow or pulled claws from clothing snags) to the jewellery.
Ethica Gemstones
A lifetime warranty is given on all Ethica Diamonds and all Ethica coloured gemstones (our branded gemstones only) against manufacturing defects and it will be replaced free of charge in the event of loss of optical properties or discolouration.
*exclusions apply
What's not covered under warranty?
Our manufacturing warranty excludes coverage for wear and tear, loss of gemstones or diamonds larger than .02ct, product loss, or theft. Cracking or fracture to gemstones almost always occurs from damage, not a manufacturing defect.
Stones of .02ct and below will only be replaced within 30 days from purchase and/or resize with us, provided there are no signs of damage that could have caused the stones to fall.
Examples of issues that would not be covered under our warranty include:
- Damage from improper wear - wearing your jewellery when exercising, gardening etc can cause damage.
- Chemicals, make-up, swimming pools or hot tubs can cause discolouration of precious metals.
- The loosening or loss of a gemstone, caused by damage from everyday wear, prongs catching, wearing out or bending due to daily wear or damage. Prongs sometimes require restoration work as part of normal wear.
- Improper cleaning or storage.
- Damage or loss caused by a failure to obtain the repairs required to preserve the integrity of the jewellery.
- Jewellery that is returned without original documentation and/or proof of purchase.
- All loose stones purchased from us, that are not set by us, it is at your own risk.
- Jewellery that has been altered, repaired or resized by another jeweller. (The only exception is if you’re purchasing outside of the UK and need a third-party jeweller to resize your ring.)
- Rings that are worn together set in different metals and/or stones types may cause wear.

What do I do if my jewellery needs repairing?
We will need to evaluate your item at our jewellery workshop, so we will ask you for a deposit of £50, to cover the cost of shipping your jewellery to our workshop and an evaluation by our workshop manager. This is necessary to determine if the damage is warrantied. This fee is refunded in full for all warrantied repairs. We also offer complimentary shipping back to the client for all warrantied repairs. Repairs that are not covered under the lifetime warranty will have a price quoted to the client for approval before work is performed. If approved, the deposit will be applied to this repair. If the client chooses not to perform the repair, the deposit will be applied to cover the shipping charge back to the client after evaluation.
If a warranty issue is found, Ethica Diamonds will repair the warrantied damage or replace the item without charge.
Please ensure that you arrange adequate insurance for your valuable jewellery item to cover risk of loss or damage and the cost and insurance for all items being sent to Ethica Diamonds is the responsibility of the sender.
All fine jewellery can be affected by normal wear, activities, or accidental damage. This is especially true for rings, since hands are actively used and subject to daily activity. Our manufacturing warranty excludes coverage for wear and tear, loss of gemstones, product loss, or theft.
This warranty is against manufacturing defects only and most defects are usually noticed when your jewellery is in its new condition.
Upon arrival, our workshop team will assess the damage and send follow up information regarding the estimated cost of repair, if relevant, and the time required to complete the repair job.
Clients are responsible for shipping costs (to and from our workshop) for cleaning, inspections, and repair work.
Other factors to consider
Resizing Rings
Resized rings become more vulnerable and further disturbance to an altered setting can cause stones to loosen and/or fall out. Please ensure that you take extra care with sizing before ordering a ring with more than one stone because we will not be responsible for the cost of repair to altered settings after 30 days.
Multistone Rings
Shoulder set rings or multi-stone rings that have been returned to us for resizing up, resizing down or rings returned to us for repair carry a risk of disturbing the side/shoulder stones in their setting.
We cannot predict what may happen to these types of rings once they have been altered from the original manufactured size and responsibility then lies with the owner.
Shoulder Set & Halo Rings
Some designs, particularly those with many small diamonds set in the shoulders and halo, where small stones set around the centre stone, are more susceptible to stones becoming loose or falling because the claws are so small and delicate. This can also be caused by a clothing hitch that may have gone unnoticed or a slight knock which can slightly loosen the claws. Claw set designs tend to be more vulnerable than channel set because the sides of the small stones are exposed, so can get knocked without protection, which may cause the stones to become loose or distort from their setting.
Tension Set Rings
The minimalist design of tension settings lacks the security provided by traditional claw settings and this should be considered before purchasing, because tension set rings need a little extra care. Exposed stone settings carry a greater risk of damage and so tension settings risk damage from knocks and bangs, particularly if set with larger carat gemstones. The stone will become loose if pressure from an outside force strikes a tension setting.
