As their name suggests, lab grown diamonds are grown in laboratory conditions unlike mined diamonds which occur naturally in the Earth. There are two main methods used to grow lab diamonds: HPHT (High Pressure High Temperature)  or CVD (Chemical Vapour Deposition).

HPHT replicates the process natural diamonds go through to grow by exposing the seed of a natural diamond surrounded by carbon to extreme heat and pressure. The carbon melts and precipitates around the diamond seed and produces a lab diamond ready for faceting and polishing. HPHT diamonds can sometimes have a yellow hue as they are exposed to nitrogen during their formation. They can also be magnetic due to darker metallic inclusions which can occur for the same reason.

CVD works differently and results in the most chemically pure kind of diamond since they do not contain nitrogen and/or boron impurities. Gases including carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen are released into a sealed chamber along with a natural diamond seed. The chamber is heated to between 800 and 900º C causing the carbon to precipitate around the diamond seed and crystallise into a lab diamond. The process can take days or even weeks depending on the quality and total carat weight of diamond being grown.

You can give your pendant regular cleaning using mild soap with warm water and a soft brush. 

It is best to store your pendant in a soft pouch or jewellery box to keep it safe and secure when not being worn. 

Avoid exposing your jewellery to harsh chemicals or extreme temperatures as this may cause the lab diamond and the metal of your pendant to become dull or tarnished. 

You can also choose to have your lab diamond pendant regularly inspected and maintained to ensure all diamond settings are still strong and clean and that everything is in good condition.
