Designing your very own bespoke ring can be a daunting task, but it shouldn’t be! We’ve put together a collection of customer stories for you to read through to show that you don’t have to be a jewellery designer to make your dream ring and that it really can be an enjoyable process! Here’s Zachary and Nikki's story.
HOW DID YOU BOTH MEET?
Nikki and I met at Mullion Cove Hotel, all the way down on the Lizard Peninsula. I was the chef there and Nikki was the house-keeper/waitress. We started out as friends and saw each other every day due to the fact that we both lived in the staff accommodation at the hotel. Slowly over time and after many days spent together, we started to develop a fondness for each other which blossomed into a relationship. There have been hardships, I moved to Padstow to work for Paul Ainsworth. As neither of us had a car, what would have taken an hour and a half took us nearly 5 hour by bus and train in order to see each other. Eventually Nikki moved to Padstow too and now we’re working and living together again. This year we will be celebrating 5 years together.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE ETHICA AND DID YOU HAVE A CLEAR IDEA OF WHAT YOU WANTED FROM YOUR BESPOKE RING?
I came to Ethica with one idea: to be unique. I wanted a ring for Nikki that no one else in the world would have. Something that would perfectly represent our relationship; special and one of a kind. It was also important to me to work with a company based in Cornwall as it would mean the ring would be from where we first met. The Bespoke Ring: Stage 1 and 2
WAS THE BESPOKE PROCESS ENJOYABLE?
The process was great. One thing I never get tired of is learning new things and learning about how different industries function. While it took a while due to Covid taking over everyone’s lives, it was still a great experience to be so involved in the design and creation of the ring. Everyone at Ethica were fantastically patient as I tend to be unreachable when I’m working.
NOW THE EXCITING PART - TELL US ABOUT THE PROPOSAL!
The proposal was a complete surprise for Nikki. I’d been hinting and joking about us getting married for a while, but she still screamed. I proposed on one of our favourite beaches, Porth in Newquay. It was boxing day and there was barely anyone out there. The rain stopped just long enough for me to get down on one knee in the soaking wet sand. At which point she screamed and hugged me so hard she practically tackled me and we were rolling around in the sand, which is why in the picture her hand is slightly sandy. The bespoke ring on Nikki's sandy hand How beautiful does it look!
HAVE YOU STARTED PLANNING THE WEDDING?
The wedding is pretty much all planned. With this lockdown I haven’t had much to do except plan the wedding from the comfort of my own home. We have the wedding venue planned for August here in Cornwall. We cant wait to be married and have yet another reason to spend time together! To find out more about our bespoke service, click here!
