Matty Healy & Gabriette are engaged! The world of pop/rock music got a surprise recently with the news of Matty Healy, frontman of The 1975, announced his engagement to model & musician Gabbriette Bechtel.
The couple announced their engagement on social media after attending their friend Charli XCX's Brat show. Gabbriette shared a photo on Instagram showing off a stunning black diamond ring surrounded by sparkling smaller diamonds, captioned "Marrying the 1975 is very BRAT"
Healy's mum, Denise Welch, confirmed the happy news on Loose Women, revealing that the ring was custom-designed for his fiancée.
"I have known for a few weeks that Matty got engaged," she said. "They went over to see their friends Charli and George in New York and I woke up this morning to the fact they’ve put it on Instagram. Instagram official ... he's got engaged to Gabriella Bechtel — Gabbriette she's known as."
She continued, "Black diamond; he had it made for her. I couldn't be more thrilled. We couldn't be happier — she is everything I would want in a daughter-in-law. I'm thrilled."
While the whirlwind romance after his high-profile split with Taylor Swift raised eyebrows, it's the unconventional engagement ring that truly has fans talking.
Breaking the Mould with a Black Diamond
Forget traditional sparklers! Gabbriette's ring features a statement black diamond, a bold choice that reflects Matty and Gabbriette's own edgy aesthetic. The ring boasts a large black rose-cut elongated cushion diamond, estimated to be around 5ct, surrounded by a halo of smaller diamonds. The band itself splits into three channels, and is adorned with additional diamond rows, creating a dazzling, multi-textured piece.
While Denise Welch, Matty Healy's mom, stated the engagement ring was custom-made, fans noticed a remarkably similar ring online.
The sold ring on the website 1stDibs.com boasts an 18 karat gold band, a large black diamond center stone, and surrounding diamonds, much like the one Bechtel sported on social media. This ring was sold for $10,800.
