So, you have your brand new engagement ring, and you want to show it off – social media here you come! Whether you're on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, or something else - or all of those, here are some quick hints and tips to ensure that your ring photo is as lovely as your ring. 1 – Practice

2 – Get the light right
Go for natural light, even by a window, if you’re not outdoors. Flash may bounce oddly off the facets of the ring, and indoor light will often lead to a blurry shot. Keep an eye out for odd shadows, and make sure the whole of your hand is in the light.
3 – Make the best of your hand
If you know about the proposal in advance, get a manicure. Failing that, go lavish with the moisturiser, and make some time with a nail file and cuticle stick, even if you can’t get hold of nail polish because your deadly beloved didn’t tell you he was taking an engagement ring on your camping holiday! 4 – Choose your backdrop carefully
There isn’t a wrong answer here, so you can be as creative as you like, or stick with simple-is-best. A plain white wall, the view from the top of the mountain where the proposal happened, the pair of you grinning like ‘nanas in the background, just your two joined hands (perfect if you both have rings), a cute heart motif incorporated somehow – this is your engagement ring selfie, you get to do it how you want. 5 – Get the focus right
The ring should be absolutely crisp. This is, after all, the point of the photo. If you’re using a phone camera, move the camera closer, rather than zooming – you’ll get a crisper image. On most cameras, even on phones, you can choose the focal point, so if the ring isn’t in the centre of the shot, you can still ensure it is sharp. If you have a selfie stick, or a timer, use that, rather than tapping the screen to take the photo. At very close quarters, even a tiny knock could put the focus out. 6 – Choose the perfect angle for your ring

7 – Filters are your friend
Use Instagram’s filters (other social media channels are available) to improve on your photo, if you are feeling a little under-tanned, or the light seems flat. Nope, we don't have any images here either, because the photos are all lovely, and we can't tell if there has been a filter used. 8 – Soppy is OK when you’ve just got engaged
Go as slushy as you like with the caption, and the content as well. You’re allowed, and there are plenty of hashtags that can be brought into service at this point – #ringselfie, #engagementring, #shesaidyes, and many others.
